After winning my class (M1, -84kg) in this year’s Powerlifting America Age Division Nationals, I was invited to compete on the national team at IPF Masters Worlds in Cape Town, South Africa this coming October.

I’m so incredibly excited for this opportunity to compete in high level sport and experience international competition -it’s been something I’ve been thinking about and working towards for so many years and now I can’t believe it’s finally here!  Many of you have been around long enough to have heard all about it. But it’s particularly sweet for me post 2023 shoulder surgery and I’m really excited to represent my community here in Portland.

I’ll be competing Thursday, October 16th at 10am (in Capetown – 1am here in Portland) and likely at a closer time frame there will be a live-stream link in case anyone is not sleeping at that hour and wants to tune in. I look to be in a good position to podium but my biggest goal is to secure a deadlift world record – we’ll see!

Perhaps as you can imagine – this type of experience comes with a lot of expenses. Powerlifting – even for events like this – is not subsidized by the government or the federation I compete in. All associated costs fall upon the athlete – team fees, gear, travel, accommodation, coaching, travel insurance, meet day handling, etc. Several patients have kindly asked how they can support my trip, since it is entirely self-funded. The very best way is to book appointments and share my clinic with anyone you know who I can help! And if it’s of interest – I’ve also made some shirts (pre-order only, closes Sept 7th) and stickers  – absolutely no obligation at all – but here’s the link if you’d like to take a look.
